Lawrence Roe, 82, of Decatur, IL passed away at 12:47 p.m. Friday (July 2, 2010) at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday (July 7, 2010) at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday (July 6, 2010). Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family via e-mail at www.dawson-wikoff.com.

Mr. Roe was born on March 30, 1928 in Vandalia, IL, the son of Melvin and Viola (McFarland) Roe. He worked for Wabash, Norfolk & Western and Norfolk Southern Railroads, retiring after forty-six years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Lawrence was a member of the Moose Lodge #684, VFW Post 99, Korean War Veterans Association, Inc and the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees. He was the Committee Chairman Director for the Horizon Credit Union from January 1970 to January 1991. He married Jerry L. Yundt on July 18, 1964. She preceded him in death on August 30, 1981.

Surviving are his sons: Garry L. Roe of Troy, IL and Terry (Sandy) Roe of Decatur, IL; sister Eileen French of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Jerri, Heather, Darlene, Tim, Tiffany, Brad and Eric; great grandchildren: Katelynn, Jimmy, Noah, Maya and Kennedi; sister-in-law: Betty Roe of Decatur, IL; long-time companion: Alice Brady of Decatur, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son: Larry E. Roe, twin brother: Torrence Roe and brother-in-law: Jack French.

The family would like to thank McKinley Court administrators and the nurses and aids on Wing 200 and all of the therapy department, especially Adam and Brian. Dr. D. Patel, Dr. Raycraft, Dr. V. Minnaganti, Dr. P. Guaglianone at the Decatur Cancer Care and the Cancer Care technicians, Dr. M. Brustein, DMH Emergency Room and ambulance drivers and the DMH 5100 floor nurses and technicians.

We are truly sorry to hear about your dad Terry.  We were in Washington state when it happened and didn't get home until late last night.  Even though we were not in Decatur, our prayers have been with you and your fmaily the entire time.  He's not suffering any longer and in a better place now.
